Things To Consider When Choosing Your Bath Lift

Bath lifts are an excellent tool for elderly people, or those who suffer from issues relating to their mobility. They allow the user to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of a hot bath and retain their independence without having to risk injuring themselves or putting themselves through discomfort or pain whilst entering or exiting the bath tub.

Over the years, the amount of bath lifts available has grown hugely, to the point that there are now hundreds of styles, designs and models for you to choose from. However, the down side of this is that it can be more difficult to find the ideal lift for your requirements.

What Should I Consider When Buying My Bath Lift?

  1. Bathtub Size – Before you purchase a bath lift, you should always ensure that you have accurate measurements of your bath – most lifts are suitable for a range of bath sizes, but it is always better to be safe than sorry.

If you have a much wider bath tub, for example a whirlpool bath, then you will either require a specially designed model or you will need to purchase extensions.

  2. Seat Size – The size of your bath lift’s seat is extremely important for a range of reasons. When it comes to choosing the right size for you, you should always consider practicality first; look to your own mobility and choose a size that you can easily sit on and stand up from.

Depending on your own physical issues, you may want to choose a bath lift with wings, or flaps, on either side of the seat to create an effective transfer surface, which will give you more space to manoeuvre yourself over the top of the bathtub’s lip.

  3. Lift/Lowering Range – The lift range of the chair is the height at which the component itself will sit above the bath tub and how low into the bath water you will be able to go. Examining the lift range will ensure that you choose a model which will immerse you into the water at the level that you prefer.

  4. Lifts Per Battery Charge – Most bath lifts are battery powered, so you needn’t worry about tripping over or wetting any attached power cords. Each bath lift will offer multiple lifts per battery charge, but it is important to ensure that you choose a bath lift battery which will retain its charge for longer.
